The HSI is a free-float adjusted, market-capitalization-weighted stock-market index. It started with a base level of 100 as of July 31st, 1964.
The HSI is composed of a total of 50 stocks, divided into four sub-indices:
- Hang Seng Finance Sub-index
- Hang Seng Utilities Sub-index
- Hang Seng Properties Sub-index
- Hang Seng Commerce & Industry Sub-index
