Information on currency : Austrian schilling
The Austrian Schilling (Österreichischer Schilling) was the official currency of Austria before the country adopted the euro. It was in use from 1925 to 1938 and then again from 1945 to 2002.
The Schilling was introduced as the official currency during the First Austrian Republic in 1925, replacing the Austrian krone at a rate of 1 Schilling to 10,000 kronen.
Subunits
The Schilling was divided into 100 Groschen.
Coins and Banknotes
The Schilling had various denominations of coins and banknotes. Coins were issued in Groschen and Schilling denominations, while banknotes were issued in various denominations.
Euro Adoption
Austria adopted the euro on January 1, 2002, along with several other European countries. The Schilling ceased to be legal tender, and all transactions switched to the euro.
Since the adoption of the euro, the Schilling is no longer in circulation, and any remaining banknotes and coins are considered collector's items. The euro is now the official currency used in Austria.
Exchange Rate
The exchange rate at which the Schilling was replaced by the euro was fixed at 1 euro = 13.7603 Schilling.
